The deposit must be paid to the RTA within 10 days, and the person receiving the rental bond must issue a receipt when the money is received (section 116, 145(4) of the RTRA Act). Failure to do both is a criminal offence. In the case of residential tenancys, if an organization receives government assistance for the provision of rental housing and the bond is paid in installments, the bond must be paid to the RTA within 10 days of receiving the last payment (section 117 of the RTRA Act). If a resident of a dwelling pays a rental bond in instalments, the provider must pay all funds to the ATR within 10 days of receipt of the last instalment (section 118 of the RTRA Act). Failure to do so is a criminal offence. Periodic – A periodic lease will continue as long as neither party wishes to terminate the lease.
