On September 9th Apple was holding their annual event in San Francisco showing off their latest novelties among them also the new iPhone 6S and 6S plus. Taking into account that this is the S- release of the iPhone and not a number jump to 7 we must say that the new iPhone 6S and 6S plus deliver lots of new features and improvements to it’s predeccessor the iPhone 6.
What’s new with Apple iPhone 6S?
Not much changed about the design of the Apple iPhone 6S. It still looks quite the same as the iPhone 6 but it definitely gained some improvements. There are small changes due to the new screen functionality called the 3D Touch which makes the screen a bit thicker when compared to the iPhone 6. Additionally the iPhone 6 was having some problems with bending therefore the shell was reinforced to prevent it which made iPhone 6S gain some weight compared to the old iPhone.
Here’s a thickness and weight comparison of the iPhones

Also interesting is that Apple introduced a new color with the Apple iPhone 6S and it is the “Rose Gold” which can be seen in the gallery below.
The Apple iPhone 6S display stayed pretty much the same regarding the resolution and pixel density but gained a truly amazing feature called 3D Touch. The 3D Touch technology was already introduced with Apple Watch and the screen actually detects the amount of pressure you provide and on a stronger press opens up new pop up windows and menu possibilities.
This will definitely provide a more effective way of a user interface interaction with plenty of shortcuts available with a so called force touch.
The 6S also features significant hardware change with the all new 64 bit A9 chip 70% higher performance, 90% faster GPU and much better power efficiency, making your battery last longer with the same capacity. There is also an all new M9 motion coprocessor integrated directly to the new A9 chip allowing Siri and other sensors to be in so called “always on” mode.
The Apple iPhone 6S also introduces an all new, next generation iSight camera with significant improvements. The rear camera got an upgrade to 12MP resolution and Apple made absolutely sure that all of these megapixels fall in place and make an even more beautiful pictures from the old iPhones.
The rear camera can also shoot 4k (3.840 x 2.160 resolution) videos allowing incredible details and while shooting a video still shooting 8MP photos on the go. The front camera also offers an upgrade to the 5MP resolution and a retina flash feature for selfie photos. The retina flash uses high screen brightness to compensate with the light when taking selfies in low light situations.
A great functionality to mention is also a so called Live Photo feature. This is a feature where when you take a picture, the camera takes a few shoots just before and after the picture and then when browsing through the picture gallery all of these pictures come alive for a split seconds, looking like actual short videos. The most interesting thing is, you do not have to do anything to make it work, you just take a picture. A thing to note is that the Live Photos can take up to two times more space than normal pictures, but still, a great new feature i can’t wait to test out!
The WiFi and mobile chip got an upgrade too. Apple promises faster speeds with all these methods of connectivity, WiFi allowing up to 866Mbps and LTE Advanced to 300Mbps and supporting up to 23 LTE bands.
With the release of the new Apple iPhone 6S and 6S plus we can also expect an official release of the new iOS operating system the iOS 9 bringing some new UI designs, performance improvements and split screen multitasking.
The new Apple iPhone 6S and 6S plus got some really good improvements primarily focusing on the new ext generation iSight camera and A9 chipset. I think all this was really anticipated and a must for the future of the iPhone. The next iPhone 7 should also bring a redesign of the phone which we definitely could not expect now with the S version, so all eyes on Apple till next year, they really need to blow us away with the iPhone 7 look.
